Back to Blogging

It’s been more than 2 years since I last updated this blog. I was very busy in the past few years that I don’t have time to keep you posted. Aside from going to work everyday, my mom underwent  surgery (Bunionectomy) due to her slip disc. After the treatment, I have to bring her every week for her physical therapy appointment.

I had been wanting to quit my job in the call center industry for the past 3 years. I used to work in Makati which was an hour and a half drive away from my house until my company favorably transferred me to Ayala-UP Technohub. The place was very convenient because it was like 5-10 minute drive from home. I thought the feeling of working in a call center would be different because the workplace is within the vicinity of my home. My workload is not even tedious, in fact it was very lax. I can truly say that I didn’t feel like working at all but the thing is I didn’t enjoy what I’m doing.  I felt like I have been dragging myself to work everyday, so early this year I finally handed my resignation. I have all the free time I want that gives me no reason not to blog. I should make a pact to myself that I should have at least 1 post a week.

I still don’t have a job and I’m not planning to have one yet. I received several offers as a PHP Developer or Web Designer but I never accepted their offers. As of now, I’m busy traveling to different provinces of my country, the Philippines. I’m currently planning to get into freelance as a WordPress Web Designer and Developer and was able to design a couple of websites. I’ve been in the WordPress world since 2005 and I’ve done several redesigning on this blog. I just recently finished creating my own customized theme for this particular site and was able to come up in giving free themes to those WordPress fanatics. The design I’m making is just partial since some parts are not yet implemented but once I am able to post all my portfolio everything will be up and running so please do come back soon.

Clean Unable 46, Brother All in one Printer

Our all in one printer, Brother MFC-240C had a problem and for some reason it stopped working. Every time I turn on the printer it shows on the LCD “Clean Unable 46” error message. What the LCD suggests is to read the User’s Guide for further troubleshooting. That didn’t help me at all because it stated in the guide, probable causes are 1. The machine has a mechanical problem and/or 2. A foreign objects such as paper clip or ripped paper is in the machine. Their solution is to “Open the scanner cover and remove any foreign objects inside the machine. If the error message continues, disconnect the machine from the power for several minutes and then reconnect it.” I followed the instructions and did a total clean over. I used q-tips, glass cleaner, cloth to remove the dust that could be interfering for the printer to work, apparently to no avail it still ain’t working.

I googled it and finally I found the answer to my problem. All you need to do is to reset the purge counter. These steps worked in MFC620CN/420CN/410CN/210C/240C and FAX2440C model.

To reset purge counter

1) Enter machine maintenance mode (on MFC240C all four photo/copy/fax/scan lights flash in maintenance mode). Care is needed in maintenance mode, otherwise critical settings may be inadvertently corrupted.

FAX models with numerical keypads: Press the Menu/Set, *, 2, 8, 6 and 4 keys within two seconds. (if you fail to complete the correct key sequence within two seconds, press the Stop key to try again).

Other (non-FAX) models: Press the Menu/Set and Black Start keys. Next press the “up arrow” key four times to enter the maintenance mode).

2) Press the 8 then 0 keys in the initial stage of the maintenance mode to call up the machine’s log information list (function code 80).

3) Press the Black Start key several times to scroll through the log information list to reach the purge counter. The purge counter is the 25th item in the list.

4) Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the purge count to zero.

5) Press the Stop/Exit key to return to the initial stage of the maintenance mode.

6) Press the 9 key twice to return to the standby state.

Blog Redesign

It’s been a while since I updated this blog. In my previous posts I said that I’m busy on a lot of things. Now that I want to rekindle this blog, I redesign it. Matt Brett and Paul Stamatiou are my inspirations in designing this blog. I use Derek Punsalan’s Grid Focus Theme as my layout. I know its a whole lot different but basically I just use his theme as my structure and the rest are edited by me. The theme is not just an ordinary theme because the sidebar changes its content. Just feel free to browse the site.

My header is one of my photos taken in San Miguel by the bay at the back of SM Mall of Asia. I was playing around with the image in Photoshop and was surprise with the outcome and decided to use it as a header for this blog. I made it black so that it will blend in my theme. I made sure that this site is CSS valid but its XHTML invalid with 8 errors because of the video I have in the main page, I know other video sharing sites can make your site xhtml valid apparently I cant find gofish.com’s embed video an xhtml valid.

Anyway, since I just revive this blog from being dormant, expect more change. Well as to my topic on this blog I will not solely focus on wordpress anymore I’ll be tackling on a lot of things. It will be more personal though but definitely you’ll gain something from it. Just to give you a jist of what I’ll be blogging about, It will be more on gadgets, softwares, games, music, movies, books, design, photography, videography and ofcourse wordpress will always be there. I still have my paid post here but I excluded them from my feed so if you are a subscriber I guarantee that you wont get one. You wont see it also on my front page but it will be archived.

Do you have any issues viewing my site in your computer? What can you say about my new design?

Watch out

I’ve been very busy with a lot of things lately that I stop myself on blogging. A month ago I blogged that I will be rebooting my site again. I still keep my word on that, infact I’m about to launch a new design for my site hopefully in a few days. My domain will be celebrating her first birthday on June 3. As much as I want to release the new theme along with the celebration I really can’t do it due to lack of time. But definitely I will release it this month and I guarantee you that.

I’m doing this entry during my idle time at work. I will post a screenshot later when I get home so that you have an idea what the site will look like 😉 . Just a heads up, several changes will be made.

What I’m up to lately

It’s been a long time since I last updated my blog and posted something interesting here. I’ve been busy doing a lot of things. There was a time when I had no more time to go online ever since I bought my PSP Simpson Limited Edition last February and was hooked up with it for at least a month. Then came March when I got interested in Photography and bought a Nikon D40 DSLR. I’ve been photo shooting on different subjects. I have no time uploading and editing my photos yet because of time constraints. During work days of a 9 hour job I sometimes have to bring my mother to her doctor for check-ups. While during weekends I had to meet my friends either to go on shopping, watch movie or eat and drink outside. Last week, I purchased a camcorder for no reason at all. I haven’t used it yet but hopefully tomorrow will be the first since it will be my friend’s birthday. I’m also planning to make use of it for vlogging (video blogging). I haven’t tried this yet but let’s see once I find time to learn how.

I want to revive this blog. Lately I’m designing or should I say editing Derek Punsalan’s Grid Focus theme. Hopefully at the end of this month I have a new look of this site again. One reason I want to reboot this site is because several people have been emailing me about the inactivity of my comment section. I want this site to be personal; ideas, thoughts, experiences or anything that I can just put into my site. I can’t promise that I will still be focusing only on giving WordPress tips and tricks but on something worth reading aswell. I have 3 more domains and I’m planning to give away one of them for free. I’ll post more about it soon but for the mean time I need to finish modifying my new theme.

Donalyza.com CSS Reboot

I came up with a new CSS reboot of my site, aside from that I already upgraded to WordPress 2.3.2. So far I haven’t encountered any bugs nor errors yet.

Some of you might be wondering where the heck are my posts, It’s not that I lose them but I personally deleted all my entries last year. If you read my previous post New Year, New Site, I stated there the reason of removing them all.

Last October I already rebooted my site. I easily get bored on how my blog looks like especially if you see a lot of blogs who has beautiful theme design. My old theme was inspired by JohnChow and Shoemoney’s theme. Since I wont be using the theme anymore, I will share it later. Give me time to tweak it so that people who wants to download and use wont have a hard time installing the theme. Below are images of my old (left) and new theme (right), I named them donalyza 2.0 and new life theme respectively.

donalyza 2.0New Life Theme

Now that I’m back from scratch the site’s niche will focus on 3 things. I will be blogging about personal stuff, wordpress news and guides, and latest technology and gadgets. Starting tomorrow I will be tackling on how I created my own blog through wordpress. If you want to keep you updated, feel free to subscribe my rss now.

By the way, You want to download my old theme? What do you think of my new design? If you have problems viewing the new layout, please let me know. Thanks!

New Year, New Site

First of all I would like to greet you a Happy New Year! I’m sorry for lack of updates on this site because my last month of 2007 was such a bummer. I have personal problems to deal with but hopefully everything will be taken care of soon. Anyway this site is running for almost 6 months now but prior to that I used to blog in wordpress.com. In between those months there are times that I don’t have any submitted post for the entire month. I’m having difficulty in choosing the right niche for this site. Donalyza.com talked about from personal interest to technology, blogging, make money online, WordPress and more. I didn’t focus on one particular topic that’s the reason I had a hard time thinking on what to blog about. After being exposed in the internet I found out that I can earn easy money by just blogging. With the help of WordPress, it taught me a lot of things on how to create my own website. Each day I gain new ideas on how to improve my site and the things I need to avoid.

Last October when Google updated the page rank, I was rejoicing at first because they gave this site a PR3 but after 2 weeks it was down to PR2 until after a month it went down to PR0. I really don’t understand why they did that, I tried to ask for reconsideration but more than a month I haven’t heard a single word from them. It’s okay since I’m planning something new for this website.

This year 2008 I will start a brand new site. Let’s just say this blog is back to square one. I erased all my previous posts but I will pick some entries and post them again later. This time I will use this site as my personal blog. There are 4 main topics that I will focus on this site, my life, blogging, technology and WordPress. I will still continue to share my working knowledge about WP.

My goal for this month is to submit one post a day. I’m still working on the design of this blog but hopefully at the end of the month its already finish. To all my readers I hope you will stay, I don’t want to promise anything but I will do my best to keep this site updated.
